One address, read by the people who write the code: hello@volt-editor.com. There is no ticket system and no bot in front of it. A file that will not open is the most useful thing you can send.

Installing the beta

• Download Volt, open the disk image, and drag Volt to Applications.
• It is signed and notarized by Apple, so it opens without a warning. macOS 13 or later, Apple silicon.
• Each beta build runs for 7 days. Every update gives another 7 — download the current build again and replace the old one.

What to send when something goes wrong

Four things, and the first is worth more than the other three together:

• The file, or a piece of it. If it is confidential, the first few kilobytes are usually enough — most problems are in how a file begins.
• The build number, from Volt ▸ About Volt.
• What you did, and what happened instead.
• Your macOS version, if it is not the current one.

If Volt quit unexpectedly, macOS keeps the report: open Console, choose Crash Reports in the sidebar, and send the newest entry named Volt.

Things worth trying first

• The text looks like nonsense. The character set was guessed wrong. Pick the right one from the status bar — 219 are supported — and choose to re-read the bytes rather than convert them.
• The file opens as one enormous line. Its line ending is not LF or CRLF. The status bar sets that too, and mainframe files often use NEL or no line ending at all.
• A format is missing. Search for it on the list of what Volt opens; when nothing matches, the page asks for the name and that goes on the list of what to build next.
• A language is not highlighted the way you want. Languages and themes are plain files you can edit yourself — Settings ▸ Themes & Modes says where they live.

Your data

Volt does not send your files anywhere; what you open stays on your machine. What this website records is on the privacy page, and anything you send us is deleted when it is dealt with unless you ask otherwise.
